Daily Read #31 – The Entrepreneurial Mindset

2 Mins read

Yesterday, we had a fantastic conversation on Twitter with dozens of entrepreneurs. Check out the #RedNotebookHustle hashtag on Twitter for highlights of the conversation. This morning we wanted our morning reads to focus on a common theme that we picked from the chat. We noticed that a lot of the lessons and experience came from having a certain mindset, so we dove a little deeper into the mindset of an entrepreneur.

So, today’s morning read switches it up by providing not one, but two articles from Entrepreneur Magazine that explore the theme of the entrepreneurs mind. We’re sharing snippets from both articles, but do make the time to read them in full.

Article 1: 5 Ways to Cultivate an Entrepreneurial Mindset

Whether you’re hoping to start your own business in the near future or years down the road, sharpening your entrepreneurial mindset can have an enormous impact on your life. It’ll help you keep learning, growing, and stretching yourself to your greatest potential. (And that’s always a positive, no matter where your life takes you.)

Here are five ways you can work on cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset.

1. Prioritize learning and growth

Every great leader is a reader. Some of the most successful entrepreneurs attribute their success to reading.

Make personal development a part of your lifestyle. Each day, set aside time to read blogs, articles, and books that help you increase your knowledge, sharpen your skills, and feel even more motivated and inspired to move forward.

2. Set goals (and make daily progress on them)

Successful entrepreneurs don’t accomplish great things by accident – they set thoughtful goals they care about and work towards them. Small achievements day in and day out accomplish big goals.

Big or small, professional or personal, significant or a little silly, you should always have a few goals you’re working toward. If you set a small goal, accomplish it quickly and move on to the next. If you set a larger goal, break the path into small, achievable, realistic steps – ones you can make daily progress on.

Article 2: 8 Mindset Shifts Entrepreneurs Must Make to Achieve Their Ultimate Goal

Change of any kind starts internally, within the mind. If you want to alter your life, whether in big or small ways, you first have to adapt your mindset. The best way to liberate yourself from old ways of thinking is to shift your perspective on situations and become more innovative in your approaches.

If you’re ready to change and enhance your life, here are eight important mental shifts you should make immediately.

1. Focus on your “why.”

Take a moment and ask yourself: “Why do I do what I do?” Understanding your “why” will inform your purpose and help you tap into your deeper motivations. This is key to understanding how to achieve the things you really want in life. Why do you focus on the things you do? At the end of the day, are you fulfilled by what you’re doing? Is your focus leading to success you feel good about? If not, you don’t have the right “why.”

2. See failure as a necessary step toward success

Failure is an absolute necessity for success, but the trick is that failure is also all about how you frame it. Instead of seeing it as a fault you can never live down, recognize that failure isn’t personal. Your approach failed, and mistakes were made. You, as a person, didn’t fail. Don’t allow your ego to blind you to the lessons you need to learn. Analyze the problem that led to the mistake.
